That means astronomers are currently keen to discover if a rocky planet in such a harsh environment could manage to both form an atmosphere and then hang on to it long enough for life to take hold, a process that took around a billion years on Earth. But, red dwarfs also emit violent and powerful ultraviolet and X-ray radiation when they are young that would blast away the atmospheres of planets that are too close, potentially making those exoplanets very inhospitable to life. Red dwarf stars are also cooler than other types of stars, meaning that a planet must orbit them tightly to remain warm enough to host liquid water, a vital element needed for life. Red dwarfs like the parent star of GJ 486 b are the most common form of stars in the cosmos, meaning that statistically speaking, rocky exoplanets are most likely to be found orbiting such a stellar object. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments Aj sass![]() What is your current state of mind? Frida’s postmortem chuckle-a last laugh if there ever was one-is echoing still. One observer recalled that, deformed by the phantasmagoric, flickering shadows, her lips appeared to break into a grin just as the doors closed shut. Her ignited hair blazed around her head like an infernal halo. The sudden blast of heat from the open incinerator doors blew the bejeweled, elaborately coiffed body bolt up-right. As frenzied mourners watched the earthly remains of Frida Kahlo roll away into the crematory, the artist, known in her day for her macabre sense of mischief, played one last ghoulish trick on her audience. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments Moon Flower by Shirl Henke![]() ![]() Night Wind's Women, Leisure Books (New York, NY), 1991.
